Transcribing a compressed MP3
MP3 compresses audio to reduce file size. A smaller file is convenient to upload, but heavy compression can remove detail useful for recognizing speech. Converting an MP3 to WAV cannot restore that lost detail.
- Use the best available original MP3 rather than repeatedly converting or compressing it.
- Check duration as well as file size: a small MP3 can still contain a long recording.
- Review quotations while listening to the MP3, especially when music or noise overlaps the voice.
